Bear Hunting in Montana's Beaverhead-Deerlodge Mountains is a spot and stock adventure, with color phased bears that are plentiful. Spring Bear hunting is like stepping back in the past with the weather and the wilderness challenging your instincts, but with first site of that hungry bear your heart starts pounding and the stalk is on. Our hunt area is one of the largest, Area 216 and parts of Area 316. There are many colored bears; blond to cinnamon to deep black with many mature bears squaring at 6 feet or bigger. Everyone should experience spot and stalk bear hunting as nothing compares with no dogs and no bait! We hunt in areas where bear are plentiful and the views are incredible.

Hunting Bear with us should definitely be put on your extreme adventure bucket list!

More about BEAR HUNTING.  BEARS in this country like the warm spring day in the remote wilderness with clover coverage and drainages with flowing water, and south-facing hillsides – these are great stalk and spot locations.  Toward sunset is when great areas like this really pay off and the deer and moose step out to feed on the new green growth on the line.  Bears also like to feed near these creek bottoms before dark, so it is a good time to head up and find a high spot to glass for awhile.  Once we’ve spotted the familiar shape of the bear we quietly strategize on our approach disappearing into the trees moving in very quietly toward our prey, thankful for the mossy forest floor helping quiet our walk…now were 200  yards from the preoccupied hungry bear, who is busy filling his stomach on dandelions and grasses! As we move slowly and quietly towards him with the wind in our face crouching and  hiding behind trees and contours in the landscape to move in undetected.  At this point it is important to know at what range our hunter feels comfortable shooting from.  I like to close the gap to about 80 yards and then it’s up to my hunter…here is where patience really pay off.  Waiting for a good shot can get you that  trophy of a lifetime!
